Andromeda Strain Statistic, real or not?
Depends on what kind of research paper you are writing. Fiction is not a reliable source of scientific information. The author of the Andromeda Strain did do scientific research, so the figures probably are pretty accurate for the time period the "Andromeda Strain" was written in. I think that was more than 20 years ago, maybe even about 30 years, so the accurate statistical amounts have probably changed somewhat. You'll need to look in the book if the source of the statistics is given in a footnote at the bottom of the page or at the end, or possibly in the foreword section. The author did try to be scientifically accurate, so he probably did properly credit his sources somewhere and somehow. When his scientific credibility was questioned, he usually answered that things were "altered" somewhat it was "poetic." license.
