Regular haircuts for a blind 25 year old male?

Last year I volunteerd when asked to cut the hair of a new member in our community as all he wanted was a number 2 buzz cut. I have since gone to his suite to cut his hair and trim his moustache and beard a number of times but realize now that I am not helping him in his quest to live independently. This afternoon I am taking him to a neighbourhood barbershop to have his hair cut, we will have to walk 2-3 blocks to get there. What can I do to help him make this transition? He uses a cane or holds the shoulder of the person he is walking with.
